Upgrade done
A great many patches has been downloaded today for the specific task of homogenizing the servers that I use both for production and development. Upgrading FreeBSD between minor and major versions isn't the easiest thing, but I can report successful merges from FreeBSD 6.3 to 7.0 and 7.0 to 7.1. I don't know if it's the binary version of the freebsd-upgrade or the one of my servers that aren't fully up to the task but there was a need to restart the initial patch and applying process three times. Although this doesn't feel to stable, the initial process only downloads and applies patches to files yet to be installed. The main "problem" was however the rebuild of the ports, and my feel that the need for yet again take a look at distcc.
There are some limitations to the distcc daemon, namely the use of compiler but the architecture is also of importance. This effect is negated with the current move to move all servers to the 7.1 release branch, and as I only use the i386 version of FreeBSD there is a merit to divide the compilation work between the different servers when a compilation is to be done between the servers that might be idling at the moment. This will be a future tutorial I'm sure(mainly because i'm due to screw it up once or twice before getting it right...)
